BY VIETNAM HUMAN RIGHTS NETWORK (VNHRN)
ON BLOGGER DIEU CAY NGUYEN VAN HAI’S SITUATION
Blogger Dieu Cay Nguyen Van Hai was supposed to be released on Oct 19, 2010 after 30 months of imprisonment for a bogus tax evasion charge; however, the Vietnamese authorities continue to keep him in jail without a trial, unjustly accusing him of “propaganda against the state.” At present, over six months later, his family has still been prevented from visiting him or even learning about his situation.
Based on his past brutal treatments by the Vietnamese police, his family is extremely anxious about his health, particularly his chance of survival.
The VNHRN is deeply concerned about Vietnam’s illegal detention of Blogger Nguyen Van Hai, a recipient of Vietnam Human Rights Award in 2008.
The VNHRN demands that Vietnam stop all its illegal acts of violence against Vietnamese patriotic citizens, including the most famous Blogger Dieu Cay Nguyen Van Hai, who have bravely spoken out for the freedoms of speech, press, and expression, concerning their patriotic opposition to potential foreign aggressors.
The VNHRN calls on international human rights organizations, parliaments, and governments of the free nations in the world to show their solidarity with the Vietnamese people by unanimously and strongly urge the Vietnamese authorities to respect their citizens’ basic rights, especially to immediately and unconditionally release Blogger Dieu Cay Nguyen Van Hai.
